Rover Scouts Assist with flood relief
Boxing day (2015) in Lancashire saw an unpresedented amount or rainfall with many rivers bursting their banks. Our neighbouring town of Padiham (Lancsahire). was very badly hit by these floods. The town centre was under deep water with many homes and business affected. To make the matter worse the town was without power.
After following the developments members of the Camelot Rover Crew as well as some members of the 1st Read and Simonstone Scout Group pooled their resources and set up a hot drinks and food station. The Scouts provided drinks to all who had been affected or were helping with the mass clean up. The local village of Whalley in comparison had the Army to assist along with numerous government agencies. Padiham had no assistance and it was down to the community to pull together and help each other. Rovers knocked on doors checking on the elderly as well as providing warm drinks and comfort to the local residents. Local churches and nearby unaffected residents brought food to where we had set up our stoves and we distributed the food to all who were in need. At this terrible time the local Rover Scouts really did shine through and truly carry our their Scouting promise! |

Good evening all,
Please find below the details for the Civic Service / St George's day parade. This info is for Rover Scouts Only.

Assemble at: Newburgh School
Time: 10:00am
If you are unable to attend please do reply to me ASAP.
Please attend in your usual smart manner. This service will replace our usual April Crew meeting.

Crew Wintercamp 2015
A fine but chilly weekend during March 2015 was the setting of our annual crew winter camp this year. The venue of this years camp was Gilwell Park Scout activity centre. We had a good attendance from members of the crew who travelled from all different parts of the United Kingdom including Lancashire, Goring and London. We even had a visit from our chief commissioner DAVID COOKSLEY.
The camp was very relaxed and fun was had by everybody who attended all though we did have time for more serious matters. We had the pleasure and privilege of investing to Rovers Squires, Trevor and Tom as well as one Rover Knight, Stephen.
The Squire ceremonies were conducted by Rover Scout skipper Simon. The Rover Knights investiture ceremony was, by special permission conducted by Peter one of the Rover nights. Peter was a previous scout of Steve the potential candidate.
It was good to be able to welcome two additional rover squires into our ever-growing crew.
By chance meeting we also bumped in to some members of the Thane Rover crew. This is a Scout Association Rover crew that never shut after the advance party report.
We look forward to the future summer months, and the fun this will bring. And hopefully many more nights as a crew under canvass.

january Newsletter
Good afternoon Brother Rover,
I have decided to send this short email out to everyone as we have quite a few activities in the pipeline apart from our usual monthly meeting.
Incident Hike February.
Any Rover Scouts that are willing to help with a base during the incident hike on Saturday 7th Feb to Sunday 8th Feb would be most welcome. Their will be no camp fee and a voluntary contribution of £5 towards food please. The hike is from Gt Harwood to Downham).
Please email me if you want to come so I can allocate a base and work out the catering.
St Walburge's (early February).
The shrine church of St Walburge in Preston has asked us to a assist with their Easter preparations. One of the tasks will be polishing the gold candlesticks. If you have a head for heights, we may also be able to climb the spire (the tallest on a parish church).

Council Meeting:
I will be attending the Parish Council meeting on the 25th of February to talk about the Rovers. The council are very interested in hearing more about us and what we do. If you want to come you would be more than welcome. We will also be looking at the possibility of starting Beavers and Wolf Cubs in the village.

welcome Bro Peter
summer flower fundraiser
over the next few months the Crew will be donning the wellies taking the rake in hand and cultivating some stunning flowers to raise funds. Using our Allotment based in Read, Lancashire the Rover Scouts will take time to create some floral masterpieces ready to sell at local village shows. Keep your eye out for fantastic and cheap plants that will bring colour to your gardens or window boxes. It is expected that the glowers will be cultivated in time for the Newburgh Fair as well as the Summer fair in a Read. Keep coming back for updates.

camelot rover crew help during CHRISTMAS camp
Members of the Camelot rover Crew attended a senior scout camp this weekend with our partner group 1st Newburgh & Dalton.
On Saturday evening the senior scouts enjoyed a full christmas meal at a local public house. Sprouts, carrots, potatoes and turkey filled the table. (Don't worry any left over sprouts and turkey were soon polished off by the crew). Sunday morning and it was soon time to leave for Church. Seriously though it only felt like we had ten minutes sleep (maybe due to skips snoring). We were soon on our way walking in formation. Arriving at church we were greeted very warmly by the village and Vickar before the service. During Sunday afternoon Rover Scout Peter Lyon planned and instructed a 4 mile hike up the local fells. A key element or rover scouting and being a member of our Crew is service. It is truly fantastic that we are able to assist our local Group in such a proactive way. |
